Our dogs

We undertake all of the health testing recommend for our breeding standard poodles by the our parent club, The Poodle Club of Victoria. This health testing includes an eye exam by an opthalmologist, X-rays and assessment of hips and elbows for Hip Dysplasia and Elbow Dysplasia and genetic testing.

 Our scores  for hips are generally 5 to 8 out of 120 on the CHED scheme (see results here SearchHips). This is the Canine Hip and Elbows Dysplasia scheme for Australia. The current breed average is 9.77 making our hip scores excellent.

We undertake genetic tests through Orivet for known poodle diseases, including:

Degenerative Myelopathy

Elliptocytosis B-spectrin (Labrador Retriever/Poodle Type)

Neonatal Encephalopathy (Poodle Type)

von Willebrand's Disease Type I

Progressive Rod Cone Degeneration (prcd) - PRA

Congenital Macrothrombocytopenia

Osteochondrodysplasia (Min Poodle Type)

Congenital Methemoglobinemia (Poodle and Pomeranian Type)

We also use Diversity Testing to aid in our goal of improving diversity and therefore genetic  and general health in our poodles. Did you know that dogs with higher genetic diversity live longer, have higher fertility and better health (ref). All our health testing results are publicly available on ORCHID (Officially Registered Canine Health Information Database).  We aim for transparency in our breeding and husbandry practices. We want to provide the healthiest pups we can and have happy and loved adults.
